Yew Tree Farm is a fine base to enjoy the many attractions of the Cheshire Plains, The Peak National Park and the Staffordshire Moorlands. Cheshire is renowned for its half timbered buildings of which there are superb examples near at hand. Gawsworth Hall is in a delightful setting offering a programme of open air theatre and concerts. It is a convenient walk from Yew Tree. Little Moreton Hall is a National Trust property of unique character and historic importance surrounded by a moat and having gardens and a cafe. Bramall Hall is a relatively undiscovered treasure set in a wooded park and offering tours of this furnished hall as well as activity days. The Peak Park boasts numerous stately homes including Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Lyme Park, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park and Quarry Bank Mill are just a few of the Cheshire attractions within easy reach and for those with an interest in gardens, Biddulph Grange is a must. |

For those seeking family days out, Alton Towers is an impressive theme park with spectacular rides and interesting gardens. Chester is a beautiful walled city with an impressive Cathedral, Roman remains, Tudor buildings and a delightful zoo. Chester is on the River Dee where you can enjoy a boat trip or just relax on the waterfront and watch the world go by. Tittesworth Reservoir is close to Yew Tree Farm and has a visitor centre and gentle walks or you can visit Rudyard Lake set in its own quiet valley. The famous radio telescope of Jodrell Bank has a visitors centre with planetarium and discovery centre. Many villages and towns offer their own attractions. Leek is a market town with a good range of antique shops. Nearby Macclesfield has a silk museum and heritage centre reflecting the towns days of glory as a silk manufacturing town - the football team are still known as the Silkmen. Head into the hills and you are soon in the former spa town of Buxton with its impressive architecture, Pavilion Gardens and a newly restored Opera House offering a programme of entertainment from pantomime to opera. You can also enjoy a Bakewell Pudding in the town of that name or enjoy the market at Ashbourne. The Potteries has a range of -yes you've guessed it!- potteries to visit and the delightful Gladstone Pottery Museum where you can learn how it is done and have a go yourself. There are places to visit for all weather and all interests. |
